Wild turkeys have keen eyesight and excellent hearing. The gobblers also have the ability to change the color of their largely featherless head, sometimes in a matter of seconds. Much of the year the gobbler’s head is a reddish color, but during the spring mating season, it can also turn various combinations of red, white and blue. The more excited he is the more intense the colors can be especially when strutting. In this painting the spring forest is greening up, wild phlox is flowering and the boss gobbler is showing his brightest colors while ‘Looking for Love.’
