Harris hawks range from the Southwestern US down through much of South America. They are unique among raptors in that they hunt cooperatively in groups. The hunting groups, ranging from 2–7 birds, are lead by the larger, dominant female and include the smaller adult male and the offspring from the previous year. A great opportunity to see them in action, along with a number of other raptors, is during the daily Raptor Free Flight shows at the Sonoran Desert Museum near Tucson, Arizona.
